A house cleaner is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and orderliness of a household, which may include private residences, vacation homes, or commercial properties.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Vacuuming and mopping floors
- Dusting furniture and fixtures
- Cleaning bathrooms, including toilets, showers, and bathtubs
- Washing windows and mirrors
- Changing linens and making beds
- Loading and unloading dishwashers
- Wiping down kitchen counters and appliances
- Organizing and straightening up clutter
- Polishing silver, wood, and other surfaces
- Disposing of trash and recyclables
- Spot-cleaning walls, baseboards, and trim
- Cleaning interior windows and doors
- Washing and folding laundry
- Ironing clothes
- Restocking supplies, such as toilet paper, paper towels, and soap
- Maintaining cleaning equipment and reporting any needed repairs
Requirements
Minimum Age
- Must be at least 21 years old
2. Education
- No formal education is required
- Basic literacy (reading labels, instructions) and numeracy (measuring cleaning products) are helpful
- Some clients may prefer a high school diploma or equivalent (but itβs not usually mandatory)
3. Work Experience (Preferred but Not Always Required)
- Experience in cleaning homes, hotels, or offices is preferred
- Newcomers may get hired if they:
- Show reliability
- Are physically fit
- Have a good attitude toward hard work and cleanliness
4. Skills Required
- Knowledge of household cleaning techniques and cleaning products
- Time management
- Attention to detail
- Good communication (especially if interacting with clients)
- Ability to follow instructions
- Respect for privacy and property
5. Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, kneel, bend, and lift during cleaning tasks
- Comfortable handling cleaning tools and chemicals
- Physically fit enough to do repetitive tasks
6. Legal Requirements
